India has issued an explanatory order to Indigo Airlines' CEO Pieter Elbers requesting an explanation for the airline's flight cancellation incident — an incident that left thousands of passengers stranded at multiple airports. The notice issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of India on Saturday stated: “This large-scale operational failure indicates that the airline has major omissions in planning, supervision, and resource management, and surface evidence indicates that the airline has committed irregularities.” The notice clarifies that the CEO is responsible for the effective management of the airline, adding: “You have failed to perform your duties, arrange timely and reliable flight operations for travelers, and fail to provide necessary service facilities.” The regulatory authorities requested the CEO of Indigo Airlines to respond within 24 hours of receiving the notice, explaining why corresponding enforcement action should not be taken against the above violations.
