What steps should be taken in the event of the account holder's death


In order to close the account of the deceased, the Executor/Administrator of the estate must undertake the responsibility of furnishing the required documents:


1. Original or certified true copy of the Death Certificate; and


2. *Original or certified true copy of the Grant of Probate (GOP)/ Letter of administration (LA); or Distribution Order (Borang E) or Direction Letter from Amanah Raya Berhad; and


3. *Original NRIC/Passport of the Executor / Administrator / Beneficiary.


4. Certified Copy of Identification Document(s) of Executor(s)/Administrator(s) as listed in the Grant of Probate/Letter of Administration/Public Trustee

• Copy of Malaysia NRIC (Certification is required) ; or

• Passport (Certification is required) ; or

• Other Legal Identity Documents (Certification is required)


5. Proof of Bank Account

• Bank Statement/Passbook/Deposit Slip


6. Bank Account Information of the Deceased Account

• Bank Name

• Bank Account Holder Name

• Bank Account No.

• Bank Region (Malaysia/ Singapore etc.)

• Swift Code

• Intermediary Bank Swift Code (not mandatory)

• Bank Account Type (MYR/ USD/Multi-Currency)

Note:

Copies of documents provided need to be certified as true copies by a commissioner of oaths.


*The grant of probate and letter of administration apply to non-Muslim citizens in Malaysia. The nation’s Muslim citizens will require a Faraid Certificate from the Syariah High Court. A GOP/LA obtained from another country must be duly resealed in the High Court of Malaysia.
