QUICK SPARK: Bank of America Stock Eyes Worst Day Since Trump’s Tariffs Shock

Benzinga·10/14/2026 14:55:03

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) stock is heading for its worst day since the April 2025 tariff selloff.

Shares fell 7.5% to $49.93 by Wednesday midday, down from Tuesday’s $53.96 close. A finish at this level would be the steepest drop since April 4, 2025.

On that day the stock lost 7.6%, two sessions after President Donald Trump’s "Liberation Day" tariffs.

The trigger for Wednesday’s stock slump was a $1.2 billion penalty from the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the agency that polices money laundering.

The fine covers anti-money-laundering and sanctions violations.

It cut 17 cents from third-quarter earnings, which came in at 91 cents a share against roughly $1.10 expected. Excluding the charge, earnings were $1.08.

Net interest income – what the bank earns on loans minus what it pays on deposits – rose to $16.45 billion. Investment banking fees fell 11%.

The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLF) slipped only 1%. Bank of America shares are now down 9.3% this year.
