Eli Lilly Says New Drug Drives Comprehensive Disease Control in Ulcerative Colitis Patients

Benzinga·10/15/2026 15:53:02

Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE:LLY) on Thursday revealed new data demonstrating that Omvoh (mirikizumab-mrkz) helps patients with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease achieve multiple simultaneous treatment goals at one year.

The findings, derived from the LUCENT and VIVID clinical programs, highlight comprehensive disease management even among populations facing significant treatment challenges.

More than a third of UC patients and nearly half of Crohn’s patients in the analysis previously experienced biologic treatment failure.

Comprehensive Disease Control in Ulcerative Colitis

In the LUCENT studies, Omvoh represents the first IL-23p19 inhibitor evaluated for comprehensive disease control in UC. After one year, 27.7% of patients treated with the drug reached this composite endpoint, compared to 14% on placebo.

For patients who previously experienced biologic treatment failure, 23.4% achieved comprehensive control with Omvoh versus 9.4% on placebo.

Furthermore, over 91% of successful patients reported significant improvements in health-related quality of life on the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire, alongside reduced bowel urgency and better work productivity.

Deep Remission in Crohn’s Disease

The VIVID-1 analysis focused on corticosteroid-free deep remission for Crohn’s disease patients. At the one-year mark, 20.4% of individuals receiving Omvoh achieved this milestone, sharply contrasting with just 2% on placebo.

Among participants with prior biologic failure, 15.7% taking Omvoh reached corticosteroid-free deep remission, while zero placebo patients achieved the same result.

Expanding Combinations and Future Trials

Omvoh currently holds regulatory approvals in 47 countries. To further advance gastroenterology care, Lilly is currently investigating mirikizumab in multiple combination studies.

These include UC trials with eltrekibart and zotemtegrast, as well as a Crohn’s disease study combining the drug with an FXR agonist.

The company is also exploring concomitant use with incretin-based therapies for patients managing obesity alongside inflammatory bowel disease.

LLY Price Action: Eli Lilly shares were up 4.81% at $1,268.10 at the time of publication on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
