CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV) extended its steep sell-off this week, falling to its lowest level since May 15 as fears of an AI bubble persisted. The stock is now more than 67% below its all-time high, wiping out billions of dollars in market value. It has also formed the risky head-and-shoulders pattern, suggesting that it has more downside risk.
CRWV stock continued its strong downward trend after Gartner (NYSE:IT) warned that top neocloud companies were exposed to substantial impairments by 2030. This view mirrored what Michael Burry has constantly warned that the value of their GPUs will depreciate at a faster pace than expected.
CoreWeave has also slumped as its top insiders continue selling shares. Data shows that these insiders, who include its founders, have sold shares worth over $3.3 billion since its initial public offering. These insiders have dumped over 54.7 million shares in the last 12 months, a major thing since they are believed to have more privileged information than ordinary investors.
To be fair, insider selling is not uncommon in publicly traded companies. It could be part of portfolio management, tax obligations, and part of their compensation structure.
Most notably, CoreWeave stock has slumped as investors have remained concerned about the bursting of the AI bubble. Top investors and analysts have warned that it may burst soon because of the rising interest rates.
These fears have fueled jitters about CoreWeave’s rising capital expenditure. Management expects capex to top $39 billion this year, and the company is funding much of that spending with debt. Investors are now demanding higher returns to hold that debt, with bonds due in 2032 yielding about 15%, up sharply from the start of the year.
On the charts, there is a risk that CoreWeave’s shares are at risk of further downside. It has formed a head-and-shoulders pattern, which often leads to a continuation. It has already completed the formation of the head and shoulders, and is now on the neckline.
The stock has slumped below the 50-day and 100-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) and the Supertrend indicator. Therefore, these technicals suggest that the stock will continue falling, potentially to the psychological level of $50. A drop below that level will point to more downside, potentially to the all-time low of $33.7.
