PETALING JAYA: Keyfield International Bhd has secured a shipbuilding contract worth RM143.7mil from China-based Jingjiang Nanyang Shipbuilding Co Ltd and Nantong Shunyang Trade and Development Co Ltd.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Keyfield said the contract will entail the building of a new 90-metre direct positioning class 2 accommodation workboat (DP2 AWB).

“The enhanced features of the new DP2 AWB include diesel-electric propulsion system for fuel savings, a larger deck space, more accommodation rooms to cater for a larger capacity of passengers, higher capacity main crane and battery pack(s).

“We believe that such enhanced features will allow us to cater to the increasing requirements of our existing and potential customers in Malaysia and other parts of the world, allowing us to be at the forefront of the industry and increase our chances to win more tenders.”

Separately, Keyfield said it had entered into a memorandum of agreement with Belait Barakah Sdn Bhd for the acquisition of a secondhand DP2 AWB for RM28.3mil.

“The acquisition therefore presents our group with a timely opportunity to expand our business by further increasing our fleet size and to have a total sub-fleet of six DP2 AWBs.

“It will fortify our market position as one of the leading offshore accommodation providers in Malaysia as our total accommodation capacity will rise from 2,134 to 2,286, being the available capacity for both passengers and crew members.”
