PETALING JAYA: Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (Perstima) Bhd recorded a net profit of RM103,000 for the second quarter ended Sept 30, 2025 (2Q26) following 10 consecutive quarterly net losses.

The tinplate producer and supplier said its better performance for the period was due to a higher profit margin coupled with higher sales volume.  Revenue for the quarter rose by 51% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM386.8mil supported by higher sales volume, notwithstanding lower selling prices.

For the six-month period ended Sept 30, 2025 (6M26), the group posted a net loss of RM2.09mil, albeit smaller than the net loss of RM15.7mil in 6M25. Revenue, however, was higher by 59% y-o-y to RM757.99mil.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Perstima cautioned its operating environment remains challenging for the current financial year.

Aside from foreign exchange rate fluctuation, the group was also affected by volatility in the tinplate industry caused by the imposition of tariffs by various countries (such as the United States).

However, the group said its multi-jurisdictional operations (Malaysia, Vietnam, and Philippines) and the imposition of anti-dumping duties by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department on the import of tinplate into Malaysia may help mitigate this volatility.
