KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Food Bhd has reported a net loss of RM14.8mil for its first quarter ended Sept 30 (1Q26), narrowing from a RM33.7mil loss in the corresponding period a year ago.

Revenue for the quarter increased 3.3% to RM128.25mil year-on-year (y-o-y).

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the operator of Starbucks in Malaysia said the slight improvement in revenue was mainly supported by contributions from its new overseas operations.

“In Malaysia, the group’s Starbucks operations achieved positive same-store sales growth, contributing to a marginal increase in revenue despite having a reduced number of operating stores during the current quarter,” the group said in the notes accompanying its results announcement.

After a slight increase in revenue in 1Q26, its pre-tax loss was reduced significantly by 51% to RM15.5mil, primarily due to improved profit margins from cost saving, store rationalisation measures and lower depreciation following last year’s impairments.

Berjaya Food added it would continue exploring opportunities locally and abroad, while reinforcing its core operations to drive long-term growth.

“Our store consolidation efforts and the early signs of recovery, particularly in the domestic market, highlight the effectiveness of our strategy and our commitment to operational excellence.

“Moving forward, the group will continue to focus on innovation, digitalisation, and enhancing customer engagement across both online platforms and in-store to deepen consumer connections.

“We aim to build operational resilience, reinforce our core business, and drive sustainable growth to elevate brand equity and improve financial performance. These initiatives are positioned to deliver long-term value and sustainable returns to our shareholders,” the group said.
