The Zhitong Finance App learned that Ford Motor Company (F.US) released a report saying that US car sales fell 0.9% year on year in November, and stock prices fell on Tuesday. The Detroit auto giant's internal combustion engine vehicle sales increased 2.2%, but this was offset by a 61% drop in all-electric vehicle sales. Due to the expiration of the electric vehicle tax credit, a sharp decline in electric vehicle sales is already widely anticipated. Hybrid vehicle sales increased 13.6% in the month.
In November, sales of Ford SUVs fell 4.9% year on year to 64,022 units; truck sales remained flat at 96,696 units. Sales of F series models fell 9.6% in the same month. The star model of the month was the Mustang, which increased sales by 79% to 4,207 units.
As of press time, Ford rose slightly by 0.23% in night trading. Ford's U.S. stocks closed down 1.52% on Tuesday.
BNP Paribas analyst James Picarillo warned earlier in the day that Ford would face a difficult situation in 2026. Based on valuations and a more robust operating record, the bank is more optimistic about General Motors (GM.US).
Ford's sales volume in the US market increased 1.6% year-on-year to 175,584 units in October, mainly due to increased demand for pickup trucks, despite a marked decline in electric vehicle (EV) sales.
Affected by US President Trump's administration's official cancellation of the $7,500 federal car purchase tax credit for each electric vehicle, the market previously experienced a “runaway” car purchase trend in the third quarter. Industry analysts had anticipated that electric vehicle sales would drop significantly at the end of the year after the subsidy was lifted.
Last month, according to people familiar with the matter, Ford Motor Company is considering discontinuing production of its all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck. Although no final decision has been made on this model, executives are actively discussing the matter.
The F-150 Lightning was once the core model of Ford's electric vehicle strategy, but it was difficult to attract buyers due to high price and battery life anxiety. Ford also said it is seeking to focus electric vehicle research and development on smaller and cheaper models.
