According to the latest data from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mexico has continued to strengthen its leading position in exports of high-tech manufactured goods in Latin America and the Caribbean over the past 20 years. In 2024, Mexico's share in regional high-tech exports rose to 85%, a significant increase from 76% in 2005; Brazil's share fell from 15% to 7% during the same period. ECLAC stated in the “International Trade Outlook Report 2025 for Latin America and the Caribbean” that Mexico has an absolute advantage in exports of major high-tech products in the region, dominating 18 of the 20 key products, and the export structure is centered on the automotive and electronics industries. Among them, gasoline light vehicles, digital processing units, and transmitters with receivers have the highest export scale. Although Brazil remains second in the region, its export value is significantly lower than that of Mexico, and is only competitive in segments such as diesel vehicles, aircraft, pharmaceuticals, and electrical circuits.
