US President Trump signed an executive order on the 6th requiring the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to set up separate food supply chain safety working groups to investigate price monopolies and anti-competitive behavior, paying particular attention to the situation of foreign-controlled companies. “Foreign-controlled companies are increasingly involved in key areas, driving up food costs for American households — an issue the task force is specifically investigating,” the White House document said. The document also stated that the two working groups had the power to take enforcement action and develop new rules to combat anti-competitive practices. Furthermore, one year after the date of issuance of the executive order, the working group is required to report on the progress of the investigation and make recommendations on whether to take appropriate action by the National Assembly.
