The US small business confidence index rose in November, mainly due to a surge in optimism about sales prospects. According to data released on Tuesday, the National Federation of Independent Businesses Small Business Optimism Index rose 0.8 points to 99, a three-month high. Of the 10 sub-indicators that make up the index, 6 rose, 3 declined, and 1 remained flat. According to the NFIB, a 9-point increase in sales expectations is the main factor driving the overall optimism index. Net 15% of business owners expect sales to grow over the next three months, the highest since the beginning of the year. Improved sales expectations have boosted recruitment intentions. Net 19% of small businesses said they plan to add new jobs in the next three months. This figure is up 4 points from October to a new high this year.
