KUALA LUMPUR: SumiSaujana Group Bhd said its wholly-owned subsidiary SumiSaujana TCM Chemicals Sdn Bhd has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China-based polyurethane product manufacturer Coolis T Group.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the group said it would collaborate with Coolis T on developing and commercialising bio-based polyols derived from renewable vegetable oils for use in polyurethane foams in CoolisT Group’s furniture and bedding products.

"This collaboration aims to accelerate the global adoption of sustainable, bio-based chemical materials that meet international environmental and performance standards," it said.

Under the MOU, SumiSaujana TCM Chemicals, which has developed proprietary bio-polyol formulations derived from renewable plant oils, will serve as the technical developer and manufacturer of the bio-based polyols, lead the R&D, pilot-scale trials, and certification processes.

It will also collaborate, where relevant, with local research agencies such as the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) to enhance technical validation or compliance.

The group said the MOU is an opportunity to broaden its product offerings and enhance its technical capabilities. It said it provides the opportunity to produce,  manufacture, market and sell bio-based polyols products internationally.
