On December 10, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked: Today is World Human Rights Day. Can the speaker explain China's progress in promoting and protecting human rights? What other steps will China take to promote international human rights cooperation? Guo Jiakun said that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 77 years ago and established World Human Rights Day 75 years ago. It carries the great dream of everyone fully enjoying human rights, and the concept of promoting and protecting human rights is becoming more and more deeply entrenched in the hearts of the people. China has always attached great importance to respecting and safeguarding human rights, and has embarked on a path of human rights development that conforms to the trend of the times and is suited to its own national conditions. China will actively implement President Xi Jinping's global governance initiatives to inject more positive energy into the development of international human rights. Some countries politicize and weaponize human rights issues, posing serious challenges to global human rights governance. Some countries not only have no repentance for historical crimes such as germ warfare, forced recruitment of “comfort women,” and massacre of civilians during wars of aggression, but also continue to infringe on the rights of indigenous people such as the Ainu and Ryukyu people, and have introduced policies that discriminate against foreigners. We urge the countries concerned to face up to and resolve their own serious human rights problems, constructively participate in international human rights cooperation, and stop interfering in other countries' internal affairs through so-called human rights issues.
