JPMorganChase & Co., which has been close to signing a lease at Boston’s South Station Tower for weeks, has now asked the city to consider its name atop the new skyscraper, reported the Boston Business Journal. The financial services giant filed an application with the City of Boston to install a 77-foot-by-12-foot sign atop the new South Station Tower, even as the bank confirmed it has not yet formally signed a lease.

A JPMorgan tenancy would be a major coup for both the long-planned tower and the city, where the office vacancy rate exceeds 20%, the Business Journal reported. It would be the fourth office tenant announced for the 51-story tower, which also includes 166 condominiums with Ritz-Carlton branding on the upper floors.

Hines’ South Station Tower, the sixth tallest in the city, is opening at the end of a skyscraper building boom for Boston and at a time when far less office space is coming to market, reported the Business Journal.
