The Federal Reserve Board of Governors announced on Thursday that it has agreed to re-elect 11 regional reserve bank governors for a new term of five years. According to the law, all regional reserve bank governors and their first deputy governors serve a five-year term, and the current term expires on February 28, 2026. This re-election appointment was made after the board of directors of each regional reserve bank carried out a thorough review of the governors and the Washington Federal Reserve Board of Governors agreed to temporarily resolve the core issues surrounding the future composition of the Federal Reserve Policy Committee. The governors of the 12 regional reserve banks of the Federal Reserve are all members of the US Federal Open Market Committee and participate in interest rate decisions, but only 5 people have the right to vote every year. They are nominated and appointed by business leaders from each regional reserve bank board, and ultimately require approval from the Washington Federal Reserve Board. Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta President Bostic has previously announced that he will retire at the end of his term in February 2026. Financial markets are still waiting for the White House to announce who Trump will nominate to take over the position after Powell's term as chairman of the Federal Reserve expires in May this year. Trump's close economic adviser Kevin Hassett is considered a popular candidate.
