On December 13, 2025, the National Medical Security Work Conference was held in Beijing. The conference pointed out that during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, the national health insurance system expanded the content of treatment guarantees and consolidated and raised the level of benefits protection. The reimbursement rate for people in need in rural areas is over 90% within the scope of the health insurance policy. Thirty-one provinces and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have all achieved joint efforts within the province for employees' health insurance accounts, and 337 co-ordinated regions have opened health insurance wallets and achieved mutual assistance across provinces. Thirty-one provinces and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have all included eligible assisted reproduction programs in medical insurance. Seven provinces have achieved full coverage of medical expenses for inpatient delivery within the scope of the policy, and 95% of co-ordinated districts pay maternity allowances directly to insured persons. The long-term care insurance system covers about 300 million insured persons, benefiting more than 3.3 million disabled people.
