NASDAQ plans to submit documents to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday to introduce an all-weather stock trading mechanism. NASDAQ plans to expand the trading time for stocks and exchange-traded products from the current 16 hours per day to 23 hours a day, five business days a week. If NASDAQ implements the “5 days a week, 23 hours a day” trading plan, it will set up two trading periods: the day trading session starts at 4 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m.; the night trading session starts at 9 p.m. and ends at 4 a.m. the next day. The day trading session will continue the current pre-market, regular and after-market trading schedule, maintaining the mechanism of opening the bell at 9:30 a.m. and closing at 4 p.m. During the night trading session, trades made between 9 p.m. and 12 midnight will be counted on the next trading day. According to this new plan, the cycle of the trading week will be adjusted: starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday until the end of the day trading session on Friday.
