Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economy Sialor announced in Budapest on December 16 that the Hungarian Electric Power Company and Chevron of the United States signed a liquefied natural gas purchase agreement with a total volume of 2 billion cubic meters on the same day for a period of 5 years. Cialdo announced the news during a press conference held with US Deputy Secretary of Energy James Danley. Ciardo said that under the agreement, Chevron will supply 400 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas to the Hungarian Electric Power Company every year. This will be the first time that American liquefied natural gas has been included in Hungary's energy supply structure. Sialdo also said that Hungary has signed a relevant contract with Westinghouse of the United States for the supply of nuclear fuel for the Paukeshi nuclear power plant, which is scheduled to commence between 2028 and 2029. The two sides also reached an agreement to use American technology to build a small modular reactor in Hungary.
