Albanis said at a press conference held in the capital Canberra on the same day that the Australian Attorney General and Home Secretary will begin reforms, including increasing penalties for promoting violent hate speech. Albanis announced the move after the Cabinet held a National Security Council meeting. According to the reform plan, hate speech will be applied to cyber threats and harassment crimes as an aggravating factor in sentencing. The Government will also establish a new system to register people and organizations involved in making hate speech or promoting violence or racial hatred.
