Alstom Bags EUR1 Billion Order for Australian Rail Project

03:43 AM EST, 12/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alstom (ALO.PA) secured a 1 billion-euro order to supply metro trains, control systems and digital infrastructure to the Suburban Rail Loop Authority in Melbourne, Australia, according to a Thursday release. The French rail and transport equipment company is part of the TransitLinX Alliance, which was awarded a 4.9 billion-euro contract by the authority for the east section of the Victorian Government's Suburban Rail Loop Project. The consortium includes John Holland, KBR, WSP, and Ratp Dev. Under the deal, Alstom's share includes supplying 13 four-car automated Metropolis metro trains, digital infrastructure, signalling and maintenance, and overall system integration. Alstom will also provide its FlexCare Perform full maintenance for 15 years for the fleet. The first Metropolis trains are expected to be operational in 2035.
