Rheinmetall, Iceye JV Lands EUR1.7 Billion Deal to Supply Space Reconnaissance Data for German Armed Forces

06:50 AM EST, 12/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The joint venture between German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall (RHM.F) and Finnish satellite maker Iceye secured a contract worth 1.7 billion euros to provide space-based reconnaissance data to the German armed forces. The venture will supply synthetic aperture radar images through its exclusive satellite constellation, offering full operations, ground station management, and artificial intelligence-driven image evaluation, according to a Thursday release. The contract from Germany's Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support runs from December 2025 to the end of 2030, with an extension option. The Germany-based Rheinmetall ICEYE Space Solutions JV expects to start manufacturing its first synthetic aperture radar satellite in the third quarter of 2026.
