Texas Instruments announced that SM1, a 12-inch semiconductor wafer manufacturing plant built in Sherman, Texas, USA, will be officially put into operation after three and a half years of construction. This is also the first of four new fabs in its Sherman manufacturing cluster. The SM1 fab will gradually expand according to customer needs, and the final production capacity will reach tens of millions of chips per day to support the operation of almost all electronic devices; while the overall investment of the Sherman manufacturing cluster will reach 30 billion US dollars, which will eventually create up to 3,000 direct jobs.
