Finland's Outokumpu Welcomes EU Plan to Level Carbon Costs in Steel Sector

09:14 AM EST, 12/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Outokumpu (OUT1V.HE) said Thursday it welcomes the European Commission's proposal to expand the scope of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism to ensure a "level playing field" in the steel industry. Effective January 2026, the mechanism will apply equivalent carbon costs to imported and European Union-produced goods. The Finnish stainless steel producer also called for continued reduction of the ferro-chromium benchmark values and regular monitoring to ensure default values reflect real emissions from imported materials.
