The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government recently held an interdepartmental working group meeting on festival arrangements to comprehensively coordinate and supervise all government departments in the Special Administrative Region to prepare for receiving visitors to Hong Kong during the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays. It was announced at the meeting that this year's New Year's Eve countdown event will cancel the fireworks display and instead hold a New Year's Eve countdown event at Chater Road Pedestrian Zone in Central to convey positive energy, care and safety wishes to the public and visitors. In response to the New Year's Eve countdown event, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government have discussed extending the New Year's Eve service hours. The mainland port department has reported it to the national port department for approval in accordance with procedural requirements. Details will be announced as soon as possible. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port and Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang Port will maintain 24-hour customs clearance as usual on New Year's Eve. An interdepartmental joint command center composed of the Hong Kong Police Force, the Immigration Department, Hong Kong Customs and related departments will be launched from 31 December 2025 to 4 January 2026 to monitor the situation at the port site in real time, maintain close ties with the Mainland port authorities through established port hotlines and immediate notification mechanisms, and flexibly deploy personnel at various control points to ensure smooth operation of the port. In terms of public transport arrangements, the Hong Kong Railway Company Limited will cooperate with the service arrangements at Lo Wu Port and extend the service hours of the East Rail Line to and from MTR Lo Wu Station accordingly. Most MTR lines will operate overnight on New Year's Eve. The Transport Department will also enhance cross-border transport services connecting various ports, including increasing the number of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge shuttle buses, Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-boundary shuttle buses and direct cross-boundary buses.
