According to a report by German News Agency on December 20, NASA has lost contact with the Mars orbiter MAVEN. A NASA spokesperson told German News Agency that efforts are currently being made to restore contact. The report said that no regular data has been received from MAVEN for about two weeks. NASA previously said that a “brief period of tracking data” from earlier this month indicated that the probe may be “spinning in an unexpected way.” MAVEN was launched at the end of 2013 and has been orbiting Mars for about 10 years, providing important research data, especially in terms of the Martian atmosphere.
