A passenger train collided with a group of wild elephants while driving in the northeastern Indian state of Assam on the 20th local time. Multiple carriages derailed. There were no casualties, but 8 wild elephants were killed or injured. Indian Railways spokesman Sharma said that in the early morning of the incident, about 100 wild Asian elephants were crossing the railway. The train driver suddenly braked after spotting the elephant herd and still hit some wild elephants. The front of the car and 5 cars derailed. Fortunately, there were no passenger injuries, but 7 wild elephants were hit and killed, and 1 baby elephant was injured. Veterinarians have autopsied the dead elephants and they will be buried later that day.
