On the 21st, a number of senior Japanese opposition parties collectively denounced the ruling coalition Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Restoration Association for their proposed lifting of five types of restrictions on arms exports and drastically “untying” arms exports, believing that this move would set Japan on a dangerous path. Katsu Okada, Japan's former Minister of Foreign Affairs and permanent adviser to the Constitutional Democratic Party, also said that lifting the five types of restrictions on arms exports means allowing the export of lethal weapons, which will change Japan's long-standing principles. Currently, Japan's defense budget continues to increase, and the risk of forming a military industrial complex is rising. Taku Yamazoe, chairman of the Japanese Communist Party Policy Committee, said that the Takaichi Sanae government uses the military as the pillar of the economy and is seeking a complete lifting of the ban on arms exports, which is tantamount to declaring Japan to become a military country and degenerate into a “merchant of death.” Japan cannot become a source of arms supply, let alone profit from the arms trade; it should return to its origins as a “peaceful country.”
