Terra Metals Limited (ASX:TM1) insiders who purchased shares in the last 12 months were richly rewarded last week. The stock climbed by 10.0% resulting in a AU$7.9m addition to the company’s market value. As a result, their original purchase of AU$1.18m worth of stock is now worth AU$3.24m.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Terra Metals

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by insider Kian Tat Goh for AU$993k worth of shares, at about AU$0.051 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of AU$0.11. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

While Terra Metals insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. Their average price was about AU$0.04. It is certainly positive to see that insiders have invested their own money in the company. However, you should keep in mind that they bought when the share price was meaningfully below today's levels. I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership.
