On December 27, local time, we learned that California in the US has officially withdrawn its previous lawsuit against the US federal government and will no longer challenge the federal government's decision to cancel more than 4 billion US dollars of funding for the California high-speed rail project. The California High-Speed Rail Authority said that the reason for abandoning the lawsuit was that the state government assessed that “the federal government is no longer a reliable, constructive, and trustworthy partner in advancing the California high-speed rail project.” The agency said it will continue to advance the project in the future, but it will no longer rely on federal funding. Currently, only about 18% of the high-speed rail project's expenditure comes from federal funding. The California High-Speed Rail Authority said it has begun procedures to bring in private investors and developers, and plans to complete the relevant layout by the summer of 2026. Meanwhile, California passed legislation in September this year to ensure that the project can receive 1 billion US dollars of financial support every year until 2045.
