The Council of the League of Arab States held an emergency meeting in Cairo on the 28th to strongly condemn Israel's formal recognition of Somaliland as an “independent sovereign country” on the 26th, and reiterated that the League and the Federal Republic of Somalia are united and will jointly deal with Israel's violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. At the request of the Somali government, the Council of the Arab League held a meeting on the same day to review and issue a statement on Israel's recognition of Somaliland. The statement stated that the Somaliland region is an inalienable part of Somalia, and Israel recognizes Somaliland as invalid, illegal, and unacceptable, in serious violation of international law. This move blatantly interferes in the internal affairs of Somalia, harms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, threatens regional peace and security, and will increase tension in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the wider region. The League of Arab States fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia and supports it in taking all necessary measures within the framework of the United Nations to deal with violations. The statement further stated that the Council of the League of Arab States strongly opposes any follow-up action based on this illegal recognition, including facilitating the implementation of a forced relocation plan against Palestinians or attempting to seize northern Somali ports without permission to establish military bases in this region.
