CNPC announced on the 29th that as of December 28, CNPC's Xinjiang Oilfield has injected more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide this year, making it the first oil field in China to achieve an annual carbon injection of 1 million tons. This marks a key step in the large-scale application of CCUS technology in the Xinjiang Oilfield, providing important technical support and practical path for China's oil and gas extraction to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals. The Xinjiang Oilfield is located in the Junggar Basin and is the first large oil field in New China. CCUS captures and purifies carbon dioxide emitted during the production process, then puts it into a new production process for reuse and storage. According to estimates from the Xinjiang Oilfield, injecting 1 million tons of carbon dioxide is equivalent to planting nearly 9 million trees.
