Affirms that HSA is fully current on rent

Medical Properties Trust, Inc. (the "Company" or "MPT") (NYSE:MPT) today issued the following statement regarding litigation involving Healthcare Systems of America ("HSA").

"We are aware that the principals of HSA are currently engaged in litigation in which MPT is not involved. Separately, we have sent certain ordinary course legal notices to HSA intended to protect our legal interests. We do not expect this situation to impact rent collections moving forward and, in fact, HSA is fully current on rent owed.

"During our recent fourth quarter earnings call, we shared that HSA is focused on enhancing revenue cycle management, improving cash collections, and bringing back doctors and patients. Our team continues to carefully monitor operating performance trends, and we remain encouraged by the steps being taken at these facilities."
