Orkim unit acquires new oil and chemical tanker for RM97mil

KUALA LMPUR; Orkim Bhd said its wholly-owned subsidiary Orkim Wisdom Sdn Bhd has entered into a memorandum of agreement with Wealth Sail Shipping Pte Ltd for the proposed acquisition of an IMO type II oil/chemical tanker called Rich Sunda for US$24.2mil (RM97mil).

In a bourse filing, Orkim said the proposed acquisition is in line with its ongoing fleet expansion strategy and fleet rejuvenation programme.

"The acquisition of an IMO Type II tanker will enhance the group’s operational flexibility, as such vessel is capable of transporting both CPP and chemical cargoes, thereby broadening the group’s service offerings and market reach," it said.

Rich Sunda, which was built in 2026, has a gross tonnage of 9,013 and a deadweight of 13,850 metric tons. It measures 138.73m in length, 20m in breadth and 11.4m in depth.
