According to data released by consulting agency Benchmark Mineral Intelligence on Wednesday, global demand for electric vehicles increased for the second month in a row in April as high gasoline prices continued to push consumers to switch to electric vehicles. According to BMI, the number of newly registered electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles worldwide increased 6% year-on-year to 1.6 million units in April, although down 9% from the highest monthly record set in March. BMI said in a statement: “Policy incentives, rising gasoline prices, and the increasing influence of Chinese car companies continue to support market demand.”
