Recently, the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a declassified report to publicize the US overseas biological laboratory network, which has been questioned by the international community. The report revealed that the US government has long deployed more than 120 biological laboratories in more than 30 countries and regions around the world, and has concealed the existence and funding of the laboratories. Among them, the US Department of Defense and others participated in funding or construction of more than 40 biological laboratories in Ukraine, which contain more than 10 dangerous pathogens, including Bacillus anthracis, pestis, Ebola, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus, and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, and have carried out or are planning to carry out related research. Some biological laboratories conduct high-risk research on highly pathogenic pathogens such as avian influenza. According to the report, it is clear that research on dangerous pathogens could have disastrous consequences globally. Faced with the new evidence revealed by the US side, people can't help but ask again, what kind of activities did the US actually carry out in its overseas biological laboratories? Have biological information and samples been collected from other countries, and for what purpose? Is the US carrying out activities that violate the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological Weapons, and is the US military secretly developing biological warfare capabilities? Biotechnology should be a tool to protect human health and promote social development, not a bargaining chip in political and military games. Only by abandoning egoism and hegemonic mentality and working together with all parties can we build a strong global line of defense against biosafety risks. Many people of insight called on the United States to earnestly abide by the Biological Weapons Convention, stop slandering and discrediting other countries, take a responsible attitude to comprehensively and thoroughly clarify its overseas biological laboratory activities, and use practical actions to dispel the concerns of the international community.
