From July 6 to 10, 2026, local time, a series of events such as the first UN Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, the “Artificial Intelligence for Good” global summit, and the 2026 World Summit on the Information Society Forum were held in Geneva, Switzerland. Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Lecheng attended the relevant event and delivered a speech. The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 2025 to establish the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance. The first meeting of the mechanism was held from July 6 to 7, 2026. Li Lecheng attended the high-level intergovernmental plenary session and spoke as a representative of China. He said that artificial intelligence governance affects the fate of all humankind. President Xi Jinping proposed the “Global Artificial Intelligence Governance Initiative”, calling for the establishment of an open, fair and effective governance mechanism, promoting the benefits of artificial intelligence technology to humanity, and promoting the building of a community of human destiny. China has always supported the role of the United Nations as the main channel in the global governance of artificial intelligence, and is willing to strengthen cooperation with other countries to continuously bridge the smart divide. Jointly promote fair and inclusive development, and rely on the Friends Group Platform for International Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence Capacity Building to help countries, especially countries in the Global South, develop artificial intelligence technology and services and share the dividends of intelligence. Jointly deepen open source innovation cooperation, and use open source as a link to discuss technological innovation, promote the empowerment of achievements, and jointly build an inclusive ecosystem. Jointly establish a global governance system, coordinate development and security, and promote the formation of a governance framework and standards with broad consensus. Meanwhile, Li Lecheng also attended the “Development of Artificial Intelligence for Good and Inclusive Development” jointly organized by the Chinese Permanent Mission in Geneva and the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology.
