The British weather forecasting agency “Tropical Storm Risk” raised its forecast for typhoon activity in the Pacific Northwest this year. It is expected that an “unusually active typhoon season” will be ushered in. The level of activity will be about 40% higher than the 1991-2020 average. The latest forecast for July shows that 28 tropical storms, 19 typhoons, and 12 strong typhoons will occur from June to November, with a 30-year average of 25.5, 16.0, and 9.3, respectively. The agency said it is expected that the strong El Niño phenomenon, which is being formed, will have a “strong strengthening effect” on typhoon activity in the Pacific Northwest during the summer and fall seasons.
