[China's road capacity continues to expand and the penetration rate of new energy trucks exceeds 40%, and the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing released the “2026 China Highway Capacity Development Report” today. According to the report, the road transport market continued to be adjusted and optimized in 2025, the capacity structure was upgraded to scale, specialization, and greening, and the resilience of enterprises to risks and normalized operations improved. According to the report, the country's road freight capacity supply will continue to expand in 2025, and the overall level of saturation is high. By the end of 2025, the number of trucks in operation nationwide reached 11.689 million, an increase of 1.1% over the previous year, and the capacity scale continued to grow steadily. Research data shows that in the current road freight capacity structure, fuel vehicles are still the main players, accounting for about 50%, but new energy vehicles have formed an irreversible substitution trend in specific scenarios. Among the research companies, the penetration rate of new energy trucks was 44.4%. Of the companies that have already purchased new energy vehicles, 37.5% chose to “continue to expand the NEV fleet” and 37.5% chose to “maintain the current scale”. Judging from application scenarios, the application scenarios of new energy vehicles mainly focus on urban distribution, trunk line transportation, port, and park short transportation. In terms of operating experience, companies that have already purchased new energy vehicles almost unanimously agree with their energy cost advantages. 87.5% of research companies said that the energy consumption cost per kilometer was “lower” than that of fuel vehicles. The drop ranged from 25% to 60%, with an average drop of 42%.
