12:15 AM EDT, 07/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Swedish Orphan Biovitrum (SOBI.ST), or Sobi, said Thursday it received a conditional positive reimbursement recommendation in Canada for Empaveli, or pegcetacoplan, as a medication for certain rare kidney diseases. The drug, intended to help reduce protein in the urine in patients at least 12 years old with C3 glomerulopathy or primary immune-complex membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, is the first treatment authorized for the conditions in Canada. The biopharmaceutical company said it supported its application for Empaveli with data from the phase 3 Valiant study, in which the drug showed clinically meaningful reductions in proteinuria and helped stabilize kidney function. Reimbursement talks are expected to proceed through the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance.
