According to the “Customs Release”, on July 10, the General Administration of Customs issued the “Notice Concerning Inspection and Quarantine Requirements for Imported African Wild Aquatic Products”, which indicates that after dried chili peppers, cashew nuts, and coffee beans, wild aquatic products from countries that have established diplomatic relations in the African region have also been fully quarantined. This is a new special preferential arrangement made by the General Administration of Customs to thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions to “further expand access to African products exported to China through upgrading the 'green channel', etc.”, coordinate development and safety, implement risk classification management, and facilitate the export of African products to China. The African region is rich in marine resources, and fishing is an important economic pillar industry in many countries. Currently, wild aquatic products from Kenya, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Madagascar, Djibouti, and Mozambique have been approved for export to China. More than 10 African countries, including Morocco, South Africa, Senegal, and Tunisia, have also successively submitted applications to export wild aquatic products to China. Based on the relevant laws and regulations and international standards, the General Administration of Customs found that quarantine risks, safety and health risks, and risk prevention and control measures relating to wild aquatic products in Africa are basically the same. Therefore, it has formulated and issued uniform import inspection and quarantine requirements, and there is no need to consult and sign entry protocols one by one with the competent authorities of the relevant countries. While adhering to the bottom line of safety, we will comprehensively resolve the export of wild aquatic products from Africa to China, fully unleash the potential of China-Africa fishery trade, and help continue to deepen economic and trade cooperation in the field of agricultural food with African characteristics. In the next step, the General Administration of Customs will continue to strengthen cooperation with the competent authorities of countries that have established diplomatic relations in Africa to fully implement the upgraded “green channel” facilitation measures to help more high-quality and safe African agricultural products enter China, enrich domestic market supply, and better meet the diverse needs of consumers.
