According to people familiar with the matter, Nippon Paint Holdings has submitted several purchase offers for AkzoNobel's decorative coatings business in the past month. Sources, who did not wish to be named, said that the Tokyo-listed company made the first round of offers three weeks ago and updated the offer last week, valuing the business segment at 7.5 billion euros. The person concerned requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak out publicly. Sources said that the purchase was worth about 12 times the target profit before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization in 2026, but AkzoNobel's management did not negotiate this offer with Nippon, nor did they inform the company's shareholders of the relevant acquisition proposal. People familiar with the matter said that the two sides have yet to reach any final resolution, and Nippon may also terminate this acquisition plan.
