Britain's “Financial Times” quoted people familiar with the matter as reporting that Dubai Global Ports Group plans to build a new port and a container terminal on the east coast of the UAE to reduce Dubai's dependence on Jebel Ali Port and bypass the Strait of Hormuz. The report said that the port operator is discussing the development of a multi-purpose port along the coast of Fujairah and the construction of a new terminal within the emirate's existing port. Dubai Global Ports Group is discussing the list of terms with government officials. According to the report, Dubai Global Ports Group declined to confirm the details of any East Coast project, but stated that “diversified plans are being developed to deal with this interruption.”
