UK, Switzerland Conclude Talks for Modernized Free Trade Deal

12:32 AM EDT, 07/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK and Switzerland finalized negotiations on a modernized, comprehensive free trade agreement that will slash tariffs on key exports and strengthen the framework for digital trade and services between the two nations, according to separate releases published Monday. The deal offers tariff-free access for British lamb for the first time and cuts duties on other UK produce, such as beef, dairy and English sparkling wine. The pact also includes provisions for financial services, telecommunications, public procurement and intellectual property, among others. Once the legal formalities are completed, both countries plan to sign the agreement by the end of 2026, ahead of their respective domestic approval processes.
