On July 14, it was announced that Airbus and MTU Aero Engines are planning to deepen cooperation and establish a joint venture dedicated to the development and commercialization of all-electric hydrogen fuel cell engines. The partners aim to accelerate technology development, design, testing and certification of revolutionary hydrogen fuel cell-based aeronautical propulsion systems by establishing a dedicated and highly flexible organizational structure. The new entity will receive full support from Airbus and MTU, and will work with their respective expertise and various engineering and manufacturing teams. The non-binding agreement is subject to routine regulatory approval and completion of relevant social procedures at European and national levels. The new joint venture is expected to be operational in 2027.
