UK, EU Sign Gibraltar Treaty

09:49 AM EDT, 07/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK on Tuesday signed a "historic" agreement with the European Union regarding Gibraltar, securing economic and trade certainty for the British overseas territory. Under the new treaty, there will be fluid movement of people and goods crossing the border between Gibraltar and Spain, according to a same-day release. All routine immigration checks for the people of Gibraltar at the land border will be eliminated, with Schengen border rules to be implemented at the territory's external border, among other provisions. The UK and EU will provisionally implement the agreement beginning Wednesday.
