South Korea has put on hold a plan to establish an independent sovereign wealth fund, which was intended to follow the model of Singapore's Temasek Holdings and Australia's Future Fund. Instead, Korea will establish a strategic investment account within the Korea Investment Corporation. South Korea's Ministry of Finance said the account will invest in domestic and international areas critical to the country's competitiveness and economic security. Investment targets will cover strategic industries such as nuclear energy and aerospace, core areas such as finance and infrastructure, and overseas supply chains.
