Two oil tankers carrying Iranian oil sent a signal saying the destination was Pakistan. This unusual move may indicate that they are looking for a safe haven as the US blockade comes into effect. According to ship tracking data, the two ships Rani and Amil carried a total of 1 million barrels of crude oil and switched the destination signal to Karachi on Tuesday. When the US re-imposed a maritime blockade on Iranian shipping, the two tankers were already outside the Persian Gulf. These tankers are unlikely to be unloaded in Pakistan as this would put Pakistan at risk of violating US sanctions. According to data intelligence company Kpler, Pakistan has not imported any Iranian crude oil for at least ten years.
