New Zealand Trade Minister Todd Maclay said on Friday that New Zealand and Switzerland have agreed to begin negotiations in September to discuss a bilateral agreement covering trade, economic security, investment and e-commerce. Prior to the announcement, McCrae had a meeting with Swiss Federal Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Elena Budlig Altieda in Auckland. “Switzerland is an important partner of New Zealand, and is also one of the countries with the highest innovation capabilities and a highly developed economy in the world,” McCrae said in a statement. “Currently, global economic uncertainty continues to increase, and it is more critical than ever for countries with similar ideas to join hands to deepen trade and investment cooperation.” According to data for the year ending December 2025, total bilateral trade between Singapore and Switzerland reached NZ$1.88 billion.
