According to the latest data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 5 states in the US have now reported a total of 1,644 cases of cyclosporiasis infection. The patients concerned all said they had eaten at the US fast food chain Taco Bell before the onset of the disease. The US Food and Drug Administration said on July 16 that investigations into the outbreak showed that the source of infection may be related to lettuce balls imported from Mexico by some stores of the fast food chain. In response to this sudden food safety incident, Taco Bell announced on July 17 that as of today, all stores across the US have fully completed the replacement of affected Taylor Farms lettuce. Currently, the affected ingredients have been completely removed from the national supply chain.
